Denmark - a great market on the verge of impressive development
Around 7 per cent of the world’s wind turbines are installed in Denmark. This may not sound like much, but measured on a different scale, it reveals an impressive statistic: the 3,200 MW installed in Denmark – including 400 MW offshore – cover 20 per cent of the total electricity consumption of Denmark. This is a higher proportion than in any other country in the world.Two offshore wind farms are currently being established and older wind turbines are being upgraded or replaced on an ongoing basis. Together, these initiatives will help to increase the share of wind energy in Denmark to more than 25 per cent in the immediate future, and the ambition of the wind turbine industry is to see this figure exceed 35 per cent by 2015.The energy strategy of the government for the period up until 2025 forecasts significant and continuous expansion of the share of renewable energy over the coming decades. This development will be promoted in particular through work to enhance the capacity of the electricity market to adjust to wind power in a more efficient and flexible manner. The government expects that the planned expansion will primarily take place offshore.
